As a part of violence prevention efforts in the City of Hartford, Saint Francis Hospital and COMPASS Youth Collaborative have partnered to install STOP THE BLEED® kits within the community. Thanks to a grant from The Hartford, the Saint Francis Trauma and Injury Prevention Team donated three kits to COMPASS Youth Collaborative.

Representatives from Saint Francis Hospital, COMPASS Youth Collaborative, and the City of Hartford, were joined by community members for the installation of a STOP THE BLEED kit at Fresh 5 Deli on Main Street.

COMPASS identified areas of the community which would benefit from having STOP THE BLEED® resources easily accessible and connected with local business owners to find appropriate locations to install the kits. Last month, representatives from Saint Francis, COMPASS, and the City of Hartford gathered to install one of the kits at Fresh 5 Deli on Main Street in Hartford, bringing these lifesaving resources directly to the community.

STOP THE BLEED® is designed to bring empowerment and education about bleeding control to the public. The course is intended to teach bystanders how to initiate care for bleeding after contacting 911. Most bleeding can be controlled with the steps taught in the course. Along with donating the kits, Saint Francis provided certified training to COMPASS Peacebuilders, providing participants with the education needed to initiate care for bleeding control.
