June 18, 2026Categories: Events
Barbara Gordon’s 19th annual fundraiser, A Night at the Women’s Center, raised nearly $20,000 on June 11 in support of the Karl J. Krapek, Sr. Comprehensive Women’s Health Center at Saint Francis Hospital. Funds raised will support free mammograms and provide financial assistance to patients and their families, helping to ease financial burdens so they can focus on healing.

To date, this annual event has raised an impressive $350,000 – a testament to the generosity of the community and the lasting impact of Barbara’s efforts.
A highlight of the evening was a brief speaking program led by Tim Stanton, Regional Vice President of Philanthropy, Trinity Health Of New England, who thanked Barbara for her longstanding commitment to Saint Francis and presented her with a commemorative plaque in recognition of her extraordinary support. Governor Ned Lamont and State Representative John Larson offered remarks, praising Barbara for her dedication and contributions to advancing health care across Connecticut. Rob Roose, MD, President of Saint Francis, also spoke, underscoring the importance of community philanthropy in expanding access to care. Attendees also heard from Christina Metcalf, MD, Division Director of Breast Surgery at Saint Francis, who shared the vital impact these funds have on patients who are under or uninsured.
The festive summer event once again brought the community together in support of this important cause. Among those in attendance were Karl Krapek, the namesake of the Comprehensive Women’s Center, and former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, both of whom came to show their support. Guests enjoyed music by the Opus 4 String Quartet, while the West Hartford Fire Department once again generously volunteered their time preparing dinner and tending bar.
Barbara and her family are tremendously grateful for the care provided to them at Saint Francis and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital over many years. This annual event allows them to honor that care and give back to the hospital they love.
