Your Stories: Saint Francis Hosts Bloomfield High School Students for “It Starts Here”
May 12, 2026Categories: Events
Saint Francis Hospital recently welcomed a group of students from Bloomfield High School for the “It Starts Here: Exploring Career Pathways in Health Care” program. Hospital colleagues, including clinical leaders, community health professionals and administrative staff participated in the immersive, hands-on learning experience.
Students from Bloomfield High School heard from Saint Francis colleagues about a wide range of health care careers.
Designed to expose students to a wide range of health care careers, the program included remarks from Saint Francis leaders, guided department tours, networking opportunities with colleagues and a career development workshop focused on identity and goal setting. The group took tours across clinical departments including Women and Infants, Radiology, the Main Operating Room and the Emergency Department, including the helipad.
Through cross-departmental collaboration, Saint Francis colleagues volunteered their time to lead tours, participate in networking discussions and facilitate the career workshop. Students rotated through departments, engaged directly with health care professionals and participated in a structured session encouraging them to reflect on their interests, identity and future goals within health care.
“It Starts Here” was designed to inspire and empower the next generation of health care professionals by increasing awareness of career pathways, fostering early exposure to clinical environments and strengthening connections between the hospital and local community partners. The program supports workforce development and promotes equitable access to career exploration opportunities for high school students.
