Saint Francis Hospital is proud to announce its Epilepsy Center has received Level 3 Epilepsy Center accreditation from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level 3 Epilepsy Centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

The accreditation recognizes the highest-level medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

“We are honored to be recognized by the NAEC for our efforts in delivering comprehensive care to patients with epilepsy,” said Veeresh Kumar, M.D., Medical Director of the Epilepsy Center at Saint Francis. “Being named a Level 3 Epilepsy Center underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive, individualized care for our patients. Our dedicated team works collectively to further our goal of helping patients lead healthy, independent lives.”

The Saint Francis Epilepsy Center provides care to patients with epilepsy and other seizure disorders focused on comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic management. Saint Francis is also home to a dedicated Epilepsy Monitory Unit (EMU), equipped with state-of-the-art, computer-based monitoring designed to evaluate seizures. A team of multiple board-certified epileptologists (neurologists with expertise in treating seizures), advanced practice providers, epilepsy-trained nurses, and EEG technologists monitor patients in order to tailor individualized treatment plans.

Level 3 Epilepsy Centers must meet NAEC guidelines that encompass a wide range of services essential to high-quality epilepsy care, including inpatient EMU evaluations, a broad array of EEG services, therapeutic options, and outpatient chronic disease management. The guidelines recognize the importance of multi-disciplinary care teams in coordinating the effort of different specialists working together to diagnose and treat patients.
