The Saint Francis Hospital Pulmonary and Critical Care Department recently held two symposiums which brought together leaders in the field from across the region. The Fifth Annual Bimalin Lahiri, MD, Lecture for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and the inaugural Connecticut Regional Interventional Pulmonology Conference both provided education and strengthened collaboration.
Attendees at the Lahiri Lecture heard from Juan Salgado, MD.
The 2025 Lahiri Lecture was titled “ECMO in the Lung Transplantation Process” and featured a keynote address from Juan Salgado, MD, Director of the Lung Transplantation Fellowship and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Salgado is a transplant pulmonologist and intensivist at the Miami Transplant Institute where he leads the ECMO and critical care operations for the Lung Center.
The Bimalin Lahiri, MD, Lecture was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Lahiri, a pioneer in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine in the state of Connecticut. During his over 50 years of practice at Saint Francis, Dr. Lahiri mentored and taught countless medical students, residents and fellows, and was an astute clinician who dedicated his life to medical education and patient care. The Lahiri Lecture was especially significant this year, as Dr. Lahiri passed away earlier this year. The Pulmonary and Critical Care Department is proud to continue to honor Dr. Lahiri and his clinical excellence.
The inaugural Connecticut Regional Interventional Pulmonology Conference brought together clinicians, leaders, innovators and trainees in the field of Interventional Pulmonology. Attendees heard from Frank Detterbeck, MD, Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Yale School of Medicine, and Jason Beattie, MD, Interventional Pulmonologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Detterbeck spoke on lung cancer staging, while Dr. Beattie shared insights on the evolving role of bronchoscopic ablative therapies.
