Saint Francis Hospital welcomed the children of colleagues to Bring Your Child to Work Day on Thursday, April 23. The event aimed to provide children between the ages of 8 and 14 with an engaging and educational experience, showcasing various departments and providing hands-on activities for attendees.

Bring Your Child to Work Day

Children of Saint Francis colleagues were welcomed by hospital president Valerie Powell-Stafford to kick off their day of experiential learning.

After a greeting and introduction by Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSE, FACHE, President of Saint Francis, the children took guided tours of hospital departments, meeting with colleagues to learn about the various career roles available in health care. The children were introduced to radiology, echocardiograms and the hospital laboratory. They also took tours of a Trinity Health Of New England ambulance and a City of Hartford fire truck, thanks to the Hartford Fire Department, and even had the chance to visit the helipad to learn how the emergency medicine teams coordinate during critical situations.

Additionally, the group participated in engaging workshops and demonstrations, including basic medical skills like Hands-Only CPR training. They also participated in a Let’s Not Meet By Accident program led by the Saint Francis Trauma team and created cards to share with patients.

The day highlighted teamwork, learning and service, while giving families a meaningful glimpse into the important work that happens across the hospital.
