The Saint Francis Hospital Trauma and Injury Prevention team welcomed students from Cromwell High School to a Career Day. A group of juniors and seniors heard about career paths from Saint Francis colleagues and received Stop the Bleed instruction.

Cromwell High School students heard about health care career paths from several Saint Francis colleagues.

The students heard from Stephanie Montgomery, MD, Vice Chair of Surgery and Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery; Patrick Gauthier, EMS Manager and paramedic; Rachel Collett, RN, Trauma Performance Improvement Nurse, who also serves as an EMT and firefighter; and Jillian Noli, Occupational Therapist. Students were able to ask questions and gain insight into how to pursue a career in healthcare.

Following the career panel, the students participated in a Stop the Bleed course, taught by Tracy Fox, RN, Trauma and Injury Prevention Nurse Coordinator. All students received a certificate to signify their successful completion of training.

Sarah Turner, the Cromwell High teacher who coordinated the event, plans to bring another group of students back to Saint Francis for a Let’s Not Meet By Accident class. Also presented by the Trauma and Injury Prevention team, Let’s Not Meet By Accident highlights the dangers of risky behaviors like impaired and distracted driving.
