Deeply rooted her faith, Shawnette Alston, M.D., Residency Program Director for Internal Medicine at Saint Mary’s Hospital, takes great pride in her responsibility to care for patients, and the residents she mentors, with respect, generosity, and love.
“Her ministry at Saint Mary’s is grounded in the spirit of the Gospel and how Jesus’ care for the vulnerable models how we are to live,” explains Stephanie Boccuzzi, Mission Leader, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group, and Trinity Health Senior Communities. “We hope her example will inspire us all to live our Mission and find ways to celebrate the gifts and talents of all, so that our ministry is a beacon of light for our communities.”
Dr. Alston, humbled at the idea that her work and story uplifts those around her explains in the video, "I never thought of myself as inspiring people because I truly, truly try to live the way I believe God wants me to because that's who I answer to. If that inspires others, well I am so grateful for that."
Dr. Alston’s is the latest story in a video series launched by Trinity Health Of New England’s Mission Integration Department designed to shine a light on colleagues as they reflect on their call to work and minister at Trinity Health. Throughout the series, dubbed Catholic Health Care for a Reason, colleagues from varied disciplines are featured, sharing their unique backstory of what drives them to serve. The video series is available on the regional Infonet.
After watching the video, colleagues are encouraged to provide reactions or share their own story behind what calls them to be part of a Catholic health care organization. Colleagues may use the comment field located under the video player on the series homepage.
