In celebration of the 30th anniversary of establishing Rehabilitation Services at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, colleagues on the North Campus took part in several activities, including food trucks, the blessing of a new garden, and a cake cutting.

Mount Sinai colleagues gathered for a cake cutting to celebrate 30 years of providing Rehabilitation Services.

Founded as Mount Sinai Hospital in 1923, the hospital began an affiliation with Saint Francis Hospital in 1990, marking the first recorded instance of collaboration between a Catholic hospital and a Jewish hospital in the United States. A formal merger followed in 1995, and Mount Sinai began offering rehabilitation services, including specialized programs for traumatic brain injury, stroke and neurological rehabilitation, sports medicine, and spinal cord injuries.

In recognition of 30 years of providing unparalleled rehabilitation services to the people of Connecticut, colleagues celebrated with three days of activities. Big Green Truck Pizza offered up slices for lunch on Tuesday, with wraps and sandwiches provided for overnight colleagues. On Wednesday, Heather McDougall-Walsh, Manager of Spiritual Care, provided a blessing for a new garden, while a cake cutting ceremony was held in the Rehab Gym on Thursday. Colleagues also received t-shirts with a special 30th Anniversary logo.

On Thursday, the cake cutting was led by Pat Uhl, Physical Therapist, who has served the organization for 45 years. Colleagues heard from Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSE, FACHE, President, Mount Sinai and Saint Francis, and Kwame Asante, M.D., Medical Director, Mount Sinai and Chair, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, who thanked those in attendance for their unwavering dedication to providing the very best care for patients and their families.

“Mount Sinai is frequently regarded as the best kept secret in Hartford,” said Jen Shockley, Team Leader, Rehab Therapy, who helped lead the planning of the celebration. “We have been changing lives for 30 years and look forward to the next 30!”
