The holiday season can be especially challenging for those spending it in the hospital. For several years, Paige McCullough, CTRS, Recreation Therapist at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, has spearheaded a heartfelt tradition that provides fleece blankets to every inpatient in the rehabilitation, adult, and child behavioral health units at the hospital on Christmas morning. This donation-based program is supported by colleagues at Mount Sinai and the Saint Francis Foundation.

Each year, approximately 70-80 blankets are individually wrapped and tagged with a message of hope. In keeping with Trinity Health Of New England’s Mission, Amy Mickolite, Manager of Spiritual Care at Mount Sinai, held a Blessing of the Blankets ceremony, offering prayers of hope and healing over the donated blankets. The cozy gifts were shared with patients during a moment of connection with their caregiver as a reminder that they are surrounded by care and compassion.
“Being enfolded in love and care, having the basic comforts – that establishes a foundation for healing,” said Amy.
