Your Stories: Mercy’s Healthcare for the Homeless Team Provides Foot Care
Cynthia Brecht, RN, of Mercy’s Healthcare for the Homeless, provides foot care to a patient.

Mercy Medical Center’s Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH) team recently hosted an annual foot clinic in Springfield. The medical team invited patients of the HCH clinic to sign up for foot and nail care. Patients had an opportunity to relax, soak their feet and have their nails trimmed. In addition, any problem areas of their feet were examined and addressed. To enhance the "spa like" experience, meditative music was lightly played in each room in addition to the use of different oils, salts, and lotions. Some special highlights for the patients included foot massages and nail paintings.

Each patient who participated received a healthy treat along with a gift bag that included ChapStick, foot care items, socks, and lotion. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the annual foot care clinic had to be postponed the last two years, so it was good to be able to offer these services again and allow our patients the opportunity to indulge in a healthy, self-care experience.
