Despite the cold winter weather, construction of the S. Prestley and Helen Blake Ambulatory Care Center in Enfield is right on schedule. In fact, structural construction of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is more than 75% complete and once that portion of the project is finished, crews will move inside to work on electrical systems, phone lines, and computer set-ups. Once complete, the ASC will feature four state-of-the-art operating rooms and recovery areas on the upper level, as well as updated imaging services and space for additional medical offices on the lower level. Plans call for offering a full slate of surgical services at the new ASC including general surgery, gastrointestinal, gynecology, obstetrics, colorectal, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain, podiatry, urology, and two new services: neurosurgery and total joints.

The entire $40-million expansion and renovation project is being completed in phases. Last summer, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the re-opening of the Karen Davis Krzynowek Cancer Center which was designed with patient convenience and comfort in mind. The new center not only brings Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and physician offices together under one roof, it also includes updated infusion bays that feature privacy screening, personal televisions, and space to accommodate a supporting family member or friend.

“It’s important to make it as easy as possible for patients to receive the safe, high-quality care we provide and the S. Prestley and Helen Blake Ambulatory Care Center will meet that need by offering outpatient services close to home. We look forward to the completion of this project as it will further our efforts to serve the local community,” said Robert Roose, M.D., M.P.H., President of Mercy Medical Center and its affiliates and Johnson Memorial Hospital.
