Johnson Colleagues Contribute to Clothing Drive

When a patient comes into a hospital emergency department, several factors may impact their ability to leave wearing their own clothes. For example, a patient who comes in for treatment of a broken leg or broken arm may have some of their clothing cut off so providers can reach the injury more easily. At Johnson Memorial Hospital, colleagues are taking action to ensure that clean, comfortable clothes are available to all patients if necessary.

In an effort led by Michelle Cunha, RN, Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department, a clothing drive was held to gather items for distribution to patients in need. The clothing drive was a tremendous success, collecting pants, shirts, sweaters, winter coats, shoes and sneakers, as well as gloves, scarves, and hats – ultimately restocking the closet to capacity.

“When Michelle sees a need, she takes action – especially when that need involves our patients. We are grateful to her for spearheading this important clothing drive,” said Lindsey Gamble, MSN, RN, Executive Director of Operations and Patient Care Services, Johnson Memorial Hospital. “Michelle is truly an asset to Johnson, and through her actions, she is also an asset to the local community.”
