Marking International Women’s Day Across the Region
Mercy Medical Center's women colleagues gathered for a group photo to mark International Women's Day.

Women around the world marked International Women’s Day on March 8th. It was a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marked a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for 2024 was “Inspire Inclusion” and underscored the importance of inspiring others to understand and value the inclusion of women in all aspects of life and society. The theme also called women to be inspired to be included in all aspects of life, bringing a sense of “belonging, relevance and empowerment.”

The first International Women’s Day was held in March 1911, but it wasn’t until 1975 when the United Nations celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time.

Women marked the day in various ways, including campaigns, events, rallies, lobbying and even festivals and parties. Throughout Trinity Health Of New England, hospitals, offsite locations and Trinity Health Of New England Mobile Healthcare paused to take group photos of their women colleagues.
