For the past 18 years, the Waterbury Regional Chamber’s Health Care Council has taken time during its annual meeting to honor area health care professionals and related organizations who have gone above and beyond in making impacts in the health care field.
This year, on August 15 during a morning event, the Health Care Council honored four individuals and two organizations who have demonstrated advocacy, organizational excellence, leadership and selflessness throughout the health care community.
Receiving the esteemed Leadership Award is former Saint Mary’s Hospital President Dr. Steven Schneider. Although he retired from the hospital a year ago, he continues to be active in the Greater Waterbury area. He has placed a special focus on expanding access to health care in underserved areas and advancing job opportunities, which led to the development of the Waterbury Youth Shadowing Program – a two-week program designed to introduce area middle and high school students to careers in health care.
The Health Care Council also presented their Unsung Hero Awards to three individuals. One of the recipients, Kelly McDonald, an EMS supervisor for Trinity Health Of New England Mobile Healthcare, was recognized for the outstanding direction and support she provides to EMTs and paramedics to ensure efficient and effective EMS operations. Beyond that, she goes out of her way to take a personal interest in her colleagues to make sure that they have the resources and support they need to perform in a challenging work environment.
Congratulations to Dr. Schneider and Kelly for receiving these well-deserved recognitions!
