The Albanian-American community celebrated its 19th Annual Albanian Festival in Waterbury recently. The two-day event brings in more than five thousand visitors to celebrate their Albanian roots through music and authentic foods.

Husnain Kermalli, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Arjet Gega, M.D., Chief of Infectious Disease and several colleagues hosted an informational table over the course of two days. In addition to providing information about services at Saint Mary’s, Trinity Health Of New England Medical Group and outpatient locations, colleagues also offered blood pressure screenings. Waterbury is home to a large Albanian community, many of whom are also colleagues and practicing providers at Saint Mary’s.
In addition to vendor tables, music and dance, the festival included an award ceremony and scholarship presentation. The highlight of the event is always the authentic Albanian menu with items including traditional byrek, savory phyllo dough pie, kofte, lamb and handmade sweets like baklava.
