Last week, Trinity Health Of New England Vice President of Advocacy, Daniel Keenan, JD, joined Trinity Health leaders from across the country, as well as hospital leaders from Connecticut and Massachusetts, in Washington, D.C., for Capitol Hill Day. The event provided an opportunity to advocate for patient access to affordable care.

Trinity Health Of New England joined other hospitals and organizations in Washington to advocate for patient access to affordable care.

Leaders discussed a variety of bills with lawmakers, all with the overarching theme of ensuring patients have access to affordable care and that hospitals can navigate the challenges caused by rising labor, supply and drug costs, as well as commercial insurer costs.

Some of the issues Trinity Health leaders discussed with members of Congress include:

  • Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Trinity Health representatives advocated for the importance of maintaining funding.
  • The 340B program supports vulnerable patients and rural communities by helping hospitals stretch limited resources and reinvest savings directly into care. Leaders encouraged preserving and protecting 340B.
  • Food Is Medicine programs help prevent and manage chronic illness, improve outcomes and lower health care costs for patients and families. Trinity Health promoted programs that support a health care system focused on keeping people healthy and ensuring that care is affordable for all.

“I was honored to join health care colleagues from our Trinity Health ministries, as well as health care leaders from across Connecticut and Massachusetts in discussions with our members of Congress,” said Dan Keenan. “It is important for them to hear how the impact of losing Medicaid coverage, the importance of protecting the 340B drug purchasing program and efforts to improve payer-provider policies matter to our patients and communities.”
