The theme for 2026 was “Give to Gain” encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration. It emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations and communities give generously - opportunities and support for women increase. The theme highlights that “giving” is not a subtraction; it’s multiplication.
The first International Women’s Day was held in March 1911, but it wasn’t until 1975 that the United Nations celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time.
Women around the world marked the day in various ways, including campaigns, events, rallies, lobbying and even festivals and parties. Trinity Health Of New England hospitals paused on March 9 to take group photos of their women colleagues.
