Trintiy Health Of New England leaders recently attended Advocacy Day at the Connecticut State Capital. Montez Carter, FACHE, President and CEO, Trinity Health Of New England, Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, President, Saint Francis and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Robert Roose, MD, MPH, President, Community Hospitals and Daniel Keenan, JD, Regional Vice President Advocacy and Government Relations joined hospital leaders from across the state in meeting with legislative leaders to discuss a new path forward for Connecticut’s hospital tax. The Connecticut hospital tax settlement is set to expire in June of 2026. The settlement began after a 2019 lawsuit over the state siphoning tax revenue to cover budget gaps.

The event connects hospital leaders with legislators to discuss important health care issues.

Together, hospital leaders advocated a new approach that maximizes federal revenue and reinvests those dollars where they matter most - patient care.  Strengthening the way the state uses its taxes on hospitals is the key to supporting safety-net hospitals like Saint Francis and Saint Mary’s, protecting access to care and ensuring the communities we serve continue to have access to high-quality care.

Hospital leaders and our Advocacy team will continue to engage in these discussions and work collaboratively with legislators on solutions that put patients first. The 2026 Connecticut legislative session runs through May.
