Internists around the country celebrated Internal Medicine Day on October 28, recognizing internal medicine physicians for their hard work and dedication. At Saint Mary’s, the Internal Medicine Residency program wanted to acknowledge their cohort of residents as they work their way to becoming excellent internists.
Michael Simms, M.D., former Chief of Infectious Disease shares his expertise and knowledge with Internal Medicine Residents.
The Internal Medicine Residency program celebration extended through the week concluding on Halloween, which brought forth some creative costumes. Among the other highlights of the week was a gathering entitled, ‘Breakfast with Dr. Simms.’
Now retired from regular practice, Michael Simms, M.D., was the former Chief of Infectious Disease at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Dr. Simms still maintains a presence at the hospital conducting per diem rounds and working and teaching with the Internal Medicine Residency program.
During ‘Breakfast with Dr. Simms,’ the revered physician and role model, served as a facilitator for an open discussion with residents. Topics included why medical students choose to be internists, what challenges internists face, and how to excel in such a career.
