Saint Mary’s Emergency Department Nurses Mark Recognition Week

October 6 – 12 marked Emergency Nurses Week. The Emergency Nurses Association celebrates and honors the incredible work of emergency nurses around the world by highlighting members, providing incentives, engaging with state and federal legislators for recognition and more. At Saint Mary’s, the Emergency Department Nursing administration celebrated their team throughout the week.
Emergency Department Nurses Dawn Sprano, RN, Kara Cerbone, RN, Christina Gizzi, RN and Alex Henry, RN, were all winners in the Superlatives contest during ED Nurses Week.
A highlight for the team was the Unit Superlatives contest. Ballot boxes were created for specific categories and were open for voting during the week. According to Arla Washenko, MSN, RN, Director of Emergency Services, colleagues from all shifts and all roles, including nurses and nursing support staff, participated in this fun and engaging activity.
“It’s interesting when I think about different health care recognition weeks,” said Washenko. “I like to think in some way or another we celebrate each other all the time. We celebrate the small wins and the big wins. Whether its successes or opportunities, or difficult situations or reporting situations. I think ER Nurses Week is just a really nice time to put a label on the recognition that I feel like we do all the time.”
The ballots were counted at the end of Emergency Nurses Week and winners were announced. Washenko commented that there were a lot of night shift winners this year.
