Leaders at Mercy Medical Center held a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the hospital pharmacy’s new clean room. The event was the culmination of a $1.5 million capital project that spanned more than two years.

Mercy leaders join pharmacy colleagues in cutting the ribbon to officially open the new clean room.

A hospital pharmacy clean room is used for preparing sterile medication products for distribution to patients. It is a contained and controlled environment within the pharmacy that has a low level of environmental pollutants, such as dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles, and chemical vapors. The Mercy pharmacy clean room meets Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements and is fully USP and Board of Pharmacy compliant.

“Completion of this important project has been a team effort with a singular focus – maintaining the highest level of patient care and patient safety at Mercy Medical Center,” said Richard Wojtowicz, PharmD, MBA, Regional Director of Pharmacy Services, Trinity Health Of New England.
