Representatives of the Emergency Department at Mercy Medical Center recently held a STOP THE BLEED® training event for members of the community. More than 25 individuals participated in the training that was offered to the public free of charge.

Mercy colleagues participate in STOP THE BLEED training.

Mercy EMS Coordinator Renee Rochette, BS, MAEMT-Paramedic, is pleased with the turnout for the event and she is looking forward to planning more educational training sessions, such as a community CPR event. Renee would also like to increase community involvement in future STOP THE BLEED® trainings.

Since the American College of Surgeons launched the STOP THE BLEED® initiative in 2017, four million people have been taught basic bleeding control techniques. Learning to STOP THE BLEED® is a lifesaving skill, as the number one cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding.
