Mercy’s Family Life Center has unveiled a new labor support cart, as well as new labor support tools, that are designed to make the birthing process a little easier.

According to Laura Bowler, MSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, C-ONQS, Nurse Manager for Labor and Delivery, the cart and the tools are utilized for supporting patients during their labor, as an adjunct to bedside labor support and coaching.
The cart and tools are designed to promote a natural physiologic birth, which has been proven to improve birth outcomes and the patient’s birth experience. The birthing tools pictured (peanut ball, birthing ball, and kaya stool) are used to promote maternal movement and positioning. This helps with patient comfort, labor progression and fetal decent.
“We’re always trying to make the birthing experience as comfortable as possible for our patients, and we’ve already received great feedback about the labor support cart and labor support tools. Our patients have found this approach very thoughtful and helpful,” said Laura.
