It was a “full house” in the auditorium at the Basketball Hall of Fame where attendees came to learn about the latest diagnostic and treatment options for several types of cancer and the importance of access to care.

The event, entitled “Advancing Cancer Care,” featured a panel of physicians from Mercy Medical Center’s Sister Caritas Cancer Center and a guest speaker from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Discussions included advances in medical oncology, innovations in breast and lung cancer surgery, and the importance of creating access to patient care.
Hosted by Philip Glynn, M.D., Director of Medical Oncology, the event included presentations by Mercy’s Sarah McPartland, M.D., Agnes McAuliffe, D.O., and Laki Rousou, M.D., as well as Dana-Farber’s Christopher Lathan, M.D. Following the program, the physicians participated in a panel discussion, taking questions from the audience.
The program was primarily sponsored by the Gail Jennings Fund, created to support nursing education through the Sister Caritas Cancer Center. Micheal Jennings provided opening remarks at the event, a poignant recounting his wife’s positive experience with her caregivers at the cancer center. After his wife’s passing, Michael set up the Gail Jennings Fund to honor and support those who cared for her with funding to be used for annual cancer education events for the community.
