TogetherCare Boosts Efficiency for Johnson’s Rapid Response Laboratory

With the launch of TogetherCare, Johnson Memorial Hospital’s Rapid Response Laboratory has added two drugs (oxycodone and fentanyl) to the “drugs of abuse” screening test to the test panel that previously checked for the presence of only seven drugs.
Laboratory Manager Jeanette Pitrone (center) and her staff give the TogetherCare platform a "thumbs up."
This improvement not only puts Johnson in line with other Trinity Health Of New England hospitals, but it also helps medical technologists support Emergency Department providers rule out potential drug overdoses in a more timely matter. Before this addition, testing for the presence of oxycodone and fentanyl was sent out to Saint Francis Hospital.
The Johnson Rapid Response Laboratory also welcomes the adoption of TogetherCare because it brings about the auto-validation of normal and abnormal lab values. “What this means is that only tests that violate quality rules will stop in the interface for a medical technologist to review. All other results will automatically cross into the medical record,” said Jeanette Pitrone, MLS(ASCP) CM , SSYBCTM, Laboratory Manager, Rapid Response Laboratory. “Not only does this allow the lab to focus on more critical results but it also decreases the turnaround for normal to abnormal values. It’s a really great win!”
