Leaders in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine recently gathered for the Second Annual Bimalin Lahiri, M.D. Lecture at Saint Francis Hospital. The 2023 Lahiri Lecture focused on interventional pulmonology, a field which uses skill, innovation, and technology to improve the care provided to patients with lung disease, especially those with lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Providers from around the region heard a keynote address from Jason Akulian, M.D., Chief of Interventional Pulmonology and Pulmonary Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who discussed “Changing the Paradigm of Malignant Pleural Disease – From Palliation to Therapeutics.”
“We were happy to once again welcome our colleagues to Hartford for this lecture,” said Daniel Gerardi, M.D., FCCP, Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Saint Francis Hospital. “We are grateful for the opportunity to provide ongoing education to our peers and partners about advancements and developments in pulmonology and critical care.”
The Bimalin Lahiri, M.D. Lecture was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Lahiri, a pioneer in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine in the state of Connecticut, whose career at Saint Francis spanned four decades. During that time, he mentored and taught countless medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Lahiri touched the life of everyone he came in contact with, especially his patients. An astute clinician with an unparalleled work ethic, he dedicated his life to medical education and patient care.
