Your Stories: Saint Francis Interventional Cardiology Completes 50th Pulmonary Embolism Thrombectomy Case

On July 20, Haseeb Qazi, M.D., Interventional Cardiologist, performed the 50th pulmonary embolism thrombectomy case in the Saint Francis Cardiac Cath Lab. Saint Francis is one of the only hospitals in Connecticut to have a multi-specialty Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT), and has become the go-to referral site for all intermediate to high-risk pulmonary embolism patients in the region.

PERT is a multidisciplinary team composed of providers from pulmonary/critical care, interventional radiology, cardiology, hematology, and cardiothoracic surgery, who coordinate and expedite the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. The introduction of PERT has demonstrated reduction in all cause 30-day mortality and length of stay in the intensive care unit.
Dr. Qazi and his team in the Cardiac Cath Lab are dedicated to providing excellent patient care and have worked diligently to become experts in performing this lifesaving procedure.
