Saint Francis Hospital partnered with the Hartford Yard Goats for STOP THE BLEED® Night at Dunkin’ Park earlier this month. Led by the Trauma and Injury Prevention Teams, 24 volunteers from across the organization who are certified STOP THE BLEED instructors or instructor candidates, taught approximately 411 attendees the lifesaving skill.

Christina Walters, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, led a pre-game STOP THE BLEED instruction on the field and video scoreboard at Dunkin' Park.

“Bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death after injury,” said David S. Shapiro, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Saint Francis. “It’s about making sure people learn the technique, empowering them to act, and then making sure these materials are accessible to people.”

Christina Walters, Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, led a pre-game instruction on the field and on the video scoreboard at Dunkin’ Park, explaining the ABC’s of STOP THE BLEED. During the game, Taylor Fusco-Ruiz, BS, RN, Trauma Program Manager, was interviewed on the Yard Goats’ radio broadcast and discussed the importance of training the community on how they can help in an emergency situation.

The Saint Francis team offers STOP THE BLEED training to schools, community organizations, and workplaces. Learn more about STOP THE BLEED at TrinityHealthOfNE.org/StopTheBleed.
