As a way to honor the dream and legacy of Dr. King, colleagues around the region joined the third annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Equity Symposium on Monday, January 15. This year, the symposium was inspired by the words of Dr. King, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects us all indirectly.” Speakers focused on the importance of allyship to elevate health equity and called leaders to action both personally and professionally.
Presented by Trinity Health, the keynote speaker was Katie Boston-Leary, Director of Nursing Programs for the American Nursing Association. The symposium was moderated by LaRonda Chastang, SVP, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Trinity Health, and attendees also heard from Mike Slubowski, President and CEO of Trinity Health.
Across Trinity Health Of New England, colleagues were invited to join the symposium virtually. Viewing parties were also held at Mercy Medical Center, Johnson Memorial Hospital, and Saint Mary’s Hospital.
In Hartford, members of the National Association of Health Services Executives Connecticut Chapter spent time at the Joan C. Dauber Food Bank. The team assisted with organizing donations, stocking shelves in the Food Pantry, and putting together bags of food for clients as a way to live Dr. King’s legacy through service to the community.
